The Design for Performance was designed to help put Ireland on a pathway to a net-zero-carbon built environment and help industry navigate the forthcoming changes to the BER system required by the recently updated EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The project developed a framework, guidance and tracking mechanism for practitioners to use to help guide project decision making and tracking across the RIAI workstages in order to achieve the best possible performance of their projects in construction and performance in the four key areas highlighted in the RIAI Climate Challenge:

  1. Operational Energy
  2. Embodied Carbon
  3. Potable Water
  4. Health & Wellbeing

The Framework has been widely disseminated throughout industry, including through a comprehensive training programme aimed at building designers.
