Healthy Homes Ireland
Project description
Healthy Homes Ireland (HHI) is a joint initiative by the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) and VELUX, established to raise awareness about the link between healthy living environments and overall health in Ireland. It aims to positively influence public policy and practice by bringing together key stakeholders to consider how to address health problems caused by existing low-quality homes and ensure there is no compromise between health and energy efficiency in new build and renovated homes.
In 2022, HHI commissioned a research project by CBRE Ireland to identify priority recommendations for improving the Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) of Irish homes. The findings led to the “Towards Healthier Greener Homes” report. The report makes a series of recommendations on how to advocate for healthy homes in Ireland. They include suggestions for the creation of a leadership body for healthy homes, upskilling industry, pathways for occupant empowerment, updates to building regulations, and grant funding.
Since then, HHI has worked on a number of these recommendations and held regular open forums to allow participation from industry experts, academics, and policymakers to refine and improve the recommendations.
